Privacy Policy
Yappo ("Yappo", "we", "us") lets you chat one-on-one with people who are online right now. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using Yappo you agree to this policy.
Who this applies to
Yappo is for adults only. You must be 18 or older to use it. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
Information we collect
- Anonymous session. When you first open Yappo we create an anonymous account so you can chat without signing up. This is tied to a random identifier, not to your real name.
- Account information (optional). If you create a free account we collect your email address. If you build a profile we store the details you add, such as a display name, username, bio, avatar, and photos.
- Content you share. Messages, images, and other content you send in a chat, along with reports and appeals you submit.
- Usage and device data. Technical information such as your browser type, device, IP address, approximate location derived from your IP, presence (whether a tab is open and active), and basic interaction logs used to run and secure the service.
- Cookies and local storage. We use cookies and browser storage to keep you signed in and remember preferences. See our Cookie Policy for details.
How we use your information
- To match you with other people and run your chats.
- To keep Yappo safe: moderation, blocking, reports, and abuse prevention.
- To create and manage your account if you choose to register.
- To understand how Yappo is used and improve it.
- To show advertising that keeps Yappo free (see Advertising below).
- To comply with the law and enforce our Terms.
Advertising
Yappo is free and supported by advertising. We may use Google AdSense and other third-party advertising vendors to serve ads. These vendors, including Google, may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to Yappo and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you.
You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, or opt out of some third-party vendors at aboutads.info.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with service providers that help us run Yappo, including:
- Supabase - authentication, database, realtime, and file storage.
- Vercel - hosting and content delivery.
- Google AdSense - advertising.
These providers may process data in countries other than your own. We may also disclose information when required by law or to protect the safety of our users.
How long we keep it
We keep account and profile information for as long as your account exists. Chat content is retained only as long as needed to provide the service and keep it safe. When you delete your account we remove or anonymise your personal information, except where we must keep it to meet legal or safety obligations.
Your choices and rights
- Access and export. You can request a copy of your data from your account settings.
- Deletion. You can delete your account at any time from settings, which removes your personal information as described above.
- Correction. You can edit your profile details directly.
- Advertising and cookies. You can manage ad personalisation and cookies as described above and in our Cookie Policy.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA. To exercise any right, contact us at the address below.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Never share sensitive personal details with a stranger in chat.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. Significant changes may be highlighted in the app.
