Shagle Review (2026): Is It Legit, Is It Safe, and Is Premium Worth It?
An honest 2026 Shagle review - what is free, what premium costs and whether it is worth it, who runs the site, whether there is an app, and how safe it is.

Shagle is the one with the masks. In a category where every site looks like a clone of the last one, it has a recognisable idea: you can put a cartoon face over your own and still join a video chat. It also has one of the tidier interfaces around.
We list it as the "ease into video with a bit of cover" pick in our websites like Omegle roundup. This review is the longer answer to the three things people actually search for: is it legit, is it safe, and is premium worth paying for.
What is Shagle?
Shagle is a browser-based random video chat. Reviews date its launch to 2017. The loop is the familiar one, with a few extras:
- Allow the camera, get paired with one stranger, click to skip.
- Virtual masks cover your face on camera. This is the feature it is known for.
- A text-only option runs alongside the video.
- A country filter steers who you match with. About 70 countries are free.
- You can set an intro message that is sent when a chat opens.
- Gender filter, gifts and reconnect exist, but they are paid.
You can start without logging in, though SlashGear's rundown notes that many features need an account. The same piece calls its interface one of the best in the category, and that is fair.
What is free and what premium costs
Free: random video matching, text chat, masks, and the 70-country filter. With ads.
Premium: reported by DatingScout at $6.99 a week or $19.99 a month. It adds:
- the gender filter
- the full country list (200+)
- sending virtual gifts
- reconnecting with your previous match
- no ads
Those prices come from a third-party review site, not from Shagle's own checkout, so treat them as ballpark. A Trustpilot reviewer in 2026 quotes $20 a month, which lines up.
Paid filters are normal in this category. Chatrandom, Emerald Chat and Camsurf all charge for the gender filter. The one exception worth knowing is Uhmegle, which has no paid features.
Is Shagle premium worth it?
The gender filter is what premium is really selling, so the question is whether the filter works.
Here is the problem. Gender on Shagle is whatever someone picked when they signed up. Nothing checks it. DatingScout reports the membership as roughly two-thirds male, and one paying reviewer on Trustpilot wrote that about eight in ten of their matches were men with the female filter switched on.
That is one person's count, not a study. But it is what you would expect from a filter built on a box anyone can tick.
Our take:
- Do not buy the month first. If you want to test it, the weekly plan costs a third as much.
- Buy it for the country list or no ads, and it does what it says.
- Buy it for the gender filter, and you are paying for a preference, not a guarantee.
Is Shagle legit?
Yes, in the plain sense. It is a real site that has matched people for years, not a fake page built to take card numbers.
"Legit" also means someone answers for it, and that part is thinner than it looks.
- The operator named in reviews no longer exists. DatingScout's review, updated in 2026 and copied widely, names Cogroup Limited of Watford, UK as the company behind Shagle. We looked it up. Companies House shows Cogroup Limited was incorporated in August 2018, filed as a non-trading company, and was dissolved in August 2021. Sites change hands, so this is not proof of anything bad. It does mean the name that gets repeated is out of date.
- We could not read the current terms. shagle.com refused our automated requests, so we could not confirm who operates it today. If you plan to pay, open the terms page yourself and check the company name at the bottom first.
- The public review trail is tiny. Shagle's Trustpilot page is unclaimed and had five reviews when we checked in October 2026. Too few to be a verdict. They do point the same way: unanswered support emails, a membership that vanished a day after payment, and bans the reviewer thought were wrong.
So: legit enough to use for free, and worth a careful look before you hand over a card.
Is Shagle safe?
The honest read:
- It is an 18+ site. Nothing we found describes a real age check, so treat it as adults-only whatever the sign-up page says.
- Moderation is reported as automated and uneven. One paying user describes automated moderation banning them while fully clothed. Other reviewers report fake profiles getting through. Both can be true on the same site.
- A mask is not anonymity. It covers your face. It does not cover your voice, your room, or the poster on the wall behind you, and it can be switched off or slip.
- The camera is still the camera. Whatever a site does, the stranger on the other end can record what you show.
The usual rules apply: nothing identifying in frame, no links, no moving to another app because someone asked. The full list is in how to talk to strangers online safely, and is random chat safe covers what does and does not change between services.
Does Shagle have an app?
We could not find an official one.
- iPhone: a US App Store search for "Shagle" returned no results in October 2026.
- Android: the only match on Google Play was "Shagle Chat App" from a developer called Inotive Technology, with around a hundred installs and no visible link to shagle.com.
- Review sites agree: DatingScout lists no mobile app, only the mobile website.
Shagle works in a phone browser, and that is the way in. If a site offers you a "Shagle APK" to download, it is not from Shagle. Skip it.
Where it falls short
- The headline paid feature is the weakest one. A gender filter with no verification behind it.
- Nobody clearly answers for it. An out-of-date operator name and reports of silent support.
- No app. Fine for some people, a dealbreaker for others, and a gap that lookalikes fill.
- Ads on the free tier.
Shagle vs the alternatives
Inside camera roulette, the picks sort like this. Shagle has the masks and the nicest interface. Camsurf moderates hardest. OmeTV has the biggest crowd. Chatrandom has the most modes. Uhmegle is the closest to old Omegle and has no paid features. The whole field is mapped at Omegle alternatives, with a shorter list in Chatroulette alternatives. Traffic numbers for the category live in random chat statistics.
The mask is the interesting part. People reach for it because they want to talk to someone without being looked at. If that is you, Yappo is the shorter route: anonymous one-on-one text chat with no camera in the product at all. It is free with no tier above it, needs no account and no download, and there is no filter to sell you.
The short version
Shagle is a real site with a good idea and a clean design. The free version is the best version of it. Premium mostly sells a gender filter that nothing verifies, the company its best-known review names as operator was dissolved in 2021, and we found no official app. Use it free if you want video with a bit of cover, and read the terms before you pay.
If what you wanted was a conversation without being on camera, start one on Yappo - free, anonymous, no account.
Frequently asked questions
What is Shagle?
Shagle is a random video chat website that pairs you with one stranger at a time on webcam, with a button to skip to the next. Reviews date it to 2017. Its trademarks are virtual face masks, a country filter, a text-only option, and an interface that is cleaner than most of its rivals.
Is Shagle legit?
It is a real, working service, not a fake front. The caveats are about accountability. The best-known third-party review still names a UK company, Cogroup Limited, as the operator, but Companies House shows that company was dissolved in August 2021. The site blocks automated visits so we could not read its current terms, and the few public user reviews complain about unanswered support emails.
Is Shagle free?
The random matching is free, including text chat, masks and a country filter covering about 70 countries. Premium is reported at $6.99 a week or $19.99 a month and adds the gender filter, the full country list, virtual gifts, reconnecting with a previous match, and no ads. Prices come from third-party reviews, so treat them as ballpark.
Is Shagle premium worth it?
Only if you go in with low expectations of the gender filter, which is the main thing it sells. Gender on Shagle is whatever a person picked at sign-up and nothing verifies it, and paying users report still being matched mostly with men. If you want to try it, the weekly plan is the cheaper way to find out.
Is Shagle safe?
About as safe as any camera roulette, so use it with care. It is an 18+ site, moderation is reported to be automated and uneven, and anything you show a stranger can be screen-recorded. A mask hides your face, not your voice or your room.
Does Shagle have an app?
No official one that we could find. A US App Store search for Shagle returned nothing in October 2026, and the only match on Google Play is a small app from a developer with no visible link to shagle.com. Shagle runs in the mobile browser. Be careful with any 'Shagle APK' download - it is not from Shagle.
What is a good alternative to Shagle?
For video, Camsurf moderates harder and OmeTV has a bigger crowd. If what you wanted was the mask - a way to talk without being seen - Yappo skips the camera entirely. It pairs you one-on-one with a stranger for anonymous text chat, free with no paid tier, no account and no download.
